Every once in a while, a brickfilm is released that manages to leave me in awe. Those of you who have been brickfilming for a long time may remember Cometgreen, a well known best for Cognizance. Well, he’s back and better than ever, with his incredibly accurate remake of LCD Soundsystem’s video for All My Friends (link directs to original). The visual effects are absolutely incredible, he’s managed to perfectly track and lip synch the mouth on to the face, as well as replicate mirrors and lighting effects. Whether or not you enjoy the song is irrelevant, as the video he’s created is perfect. It hasn’t gotten as much recognition as it deserves, so be sure to share this on the web to get the word out.

I’ve released a brand new short film titled, “Possessed”. It’s an action/thriller brickfilm, which is something I’ve never tried before, so making this was rather difficult (especially in the time frame it was made in [2 weeks]). There are also a couple of new techniques I tried out, such as nighttime lighting. I may create a making of article for the How To section, so keep your eyes peeled for that. watch

These past few weeks have been very exciting. Pancake Island was released to the delight of fans who have been waiting for months, and immediately received recognition within my town. On May 28th, an awards ceremony was held in Stratford called The DIGIs Awards. It is a digital media awards show open to high school students in Canada. I ended up winning three awards. Pancake Island took home Best Animation, while Silent Symphony won Best Editing. Multiple Matts won Best Effects (this is a school project I worked on with a couple friends). The following Monday, I was invited to meet the Governor General of Canada and present Pancake Island in front of a number of government officials (just imagine a stop motion LEGO movie about pancakes being played for some people dressed in RCMP uniforms). This had all happened within a week, but the madness didn’t stop there. This Monday, (June 6th), Pancake Island was played at the local movie theatre with some other high school projects. Seeing something I made on a giant screen like that was a really great experience, and the other films that played were quite funny!

So after two eventful weeks, things are slowing down. There are 8 days of school left, so summer vacation is approaching fast, and I’ll have enough time to (hopefully) finish Viva La Vida and get it out before school starts again. I’ve already rebuilt the castle (for the bajillionth time), and will begin filming very soon.

Pancake Island. A WORLD OF ADVENTURE. This is a project I’ve been working on for the past 4 months, which was originally intended to promote a pancake event that was going to happen at my school, Pancake Day. The event has been cancelled by student council, so in an effort to make it happen, I’ve started a petition on Facebook (every signature counts!). Now that Pancake Island is done, it’s time for some more Viva La Vida.

For all of you who enjoyed my previous remix, Silent Symphony, you may enjoy this new one I’ve recently produced, Outdoors Orchestra. This time instead of books, trees, plants, rocks, and other things found in nature are the instruments. I worked on the music in FL Studio for about a week, and then edited the video in two days. This was a project for my communications technology class, as well as an entry to the DIGIs Awards. Enjoy!

Spencer Katz has been hard at work for the past year or so working on this brickfilm masterpiece, Egyptian Holiday. Filmed with a Canon 7D, this brickfilm tells the story of a trio of explorers searching for treasure in Egyptian pyramids. I highly recommend you watch it, and apparently, so do many other people in the brickfilming community.

So take a gander (does anyone say gander anymore? I don’t think so… awkward), and keep your eye out for DVDs of Egyptian Holiday, as the creator of this film plans on releasing one sometime soon!

As for the release of it, I planned to have it released shortly before the pancake day that will be held at my school (this is actually a promotional video, but don’t worry, the school and the day is not mentioned, the video is random and spontaneous). However, I do not know when that day will be, so the release date of Pancake Island is unknown.

So what can you expect with the new design? A better user experience for sure, as well as more content and updates from me. The new commenting system allows everyone to interact with eachother, by replying to eachothers comments. It will be easier for me to engage with you guys, and easier for you all to engage with eachother.
